Pricing: Pricing structures vary based on # of users and additional features, such as predictive dialing. Typically, auto-dialers start around $2,500–$5,000+ per year.

Compare other features, integrations, and compliance support:

Rate limit controls: Rate limit features are essential for controlling call volume and avoiding duplicate outreach to the same prospects. Look for a dialer that allows you to set customizable rate limits to manage the speed and efficiency of your calls.

Data enrichment and accuracy: The best automated dialers will include data enrichment features or integrations with third-party data providers (such as Apollo, ZoomInfo, etc.). This allows your team to access the most accurate and up-to-date contact information.

Check for third-party integrations: Ensure the dialer integrates smoothly with your existing CRM systems, like Salesforce, HubSpot, or Zoho. Integration is crucial for streamlining workflows to access customer information, track interactions, and sync data.

Connect rate and efficiency: Evaluate the dialer’s overall connect rate for connecting your reps to prospects. A high connect rate typically ranges from 5% to 25% for outbound calls.

Check for compliance support: If your organization must adhere to compliance requirements like the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) and General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), ensure the auto dialer software include features like call recording management.

Additionally, check that the software provides strong data encryption (e.g., AES-256) to protect customer information.

Leading automated call software: Nooks vs Orum

Nooks and Orum are auto-dialers focusing on sales productivity.

  • Nooks initially launched as a virtual engagement platform and then included automated calling capabilities as an additional function.
  • Orum launched a cloud-based automated sales dialer. It is used to dial multiple prospects to connect sales development representatives with prospects faster over the phone.

Nooks and Orum offer core capabilities, including features like virtual salesfloor, and CRM integrations (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot, and others).

However, their approach and capabilities in offering additional features differ. For example, Nooks allows users to set rate limits to prevent duplicate calls, while Orum does not offer predefined rate limits. To showcase how these vendors deliver their call software features and capabilities, here are my key takeaways:

Power dialer and parallel dialer:

Nooks and Orum offer businesses two dialing options: power dialer and auto dialer.

  • Nooks: Nooks’ power dialer allows users to dial up to 5 numbers simultaneously, and its parallel dialing feature also allows dialing up to 5 numbers at once.
  • Orum: Orum’s power dialer option dials only 1 number at a time, while Orum’s auto dialer (also known as a parallel dialer) can call up to 10 numbers simultaneously.

Orum is more flexible than Nooks regarding parallel dialing and allows businesses control over how many calls they want to place simultaneously, depending on their team’s capacity and the type of campaign.

Orums’ power dialer2

Local presence dialing:

Local presence dialing displays a local phone number on the recipient’s caller ID, increasing the chances that the call will be answered.

  • Nooks: Currently, Nooks does not support full local presence dialing but does allow users to generate a phone number with an area code matching their location. This can still increase the likelihood of calls being answered.
  • Orum: Similarly, Orum does not fully support local presence dialing. However, users can select up to 10 phone numbers per month from any area code and rotate them monthly. For additional numbers in specific area codes, an extra fee may apply. Users need to manually switch between numbers, which could require more effort for optimal outreach.

Automated call scripting:

Automated call scripting, also known as battlecards, creates pre-defined scripts or templates that guide sales representatives during their calls with prospects. These can cover introductions, questions to ask, closing statements, etc.

  • Nooks: Offer AI-driven battlecards that can adapt to the conversation in real-time, adjusting the content based on keywords, tone, and prospect responses.
  • Orum: Does not offer automated call scripting.
Nooks’ call scripting3

Live listen:

  • Nooks: Allows managers to listen to calls in real time within the salesfloor.
  • Orum: Provides the same live listen functionality, but also extends it by allowing managers to monitor calls outside the salesfloor during a rep’s dial session for added flexibility.
Orum’s live listen feature4

Rate limits:

Rate limits are important for preventing duplicate calls and managing the speed of outreach, ensuring that call volumes are controlled and sales teams can maintain efficiency.

  • Nooks: Nooks gives users the flexibility to set rate limits, allowing them to control the speed of their calling activities.
  • Orum: Orum does not offer predefined rate limits. While this provides more flexibility, it can result in issues such as repeatedly contacting the same prospect within a day or over consecutive days.

Data enrichment for high connect rates:

By enriching contact data, sales teams can gain access to alternative phone numbers, company information, and even social media profiles, which increases the chances of reaching the right person.

  • Nooks: Extensive data enrichment through integrations: Nooks partners with third-party providers like Apollo, Datagma, Cognism, and ZoomInfo to access real-time contact information, including emails, phone numbers, job titles, and other relevant data.
  • Orum: Basic data enrichment: Orum offers a more simplified approach to data enrichment. It can provide alternative phone numbers from the internal database to enrich contract data. However, it does not have established partnerships with third-party data providers to access more extensive or up-to-date information.
Nooks targeting high-intent prospects5

CRM integrations:

  • Nooks: Nooks integrates with key CRMs, including:
    • Salesforce
    • Apollo
    • Outreach
    • Salesloft
    • HubSpot
  • Orum: To leverage data from a different CRM or application, different from the ones listed (below) with Orum, you need to export your contact list as a .csv file and upload it directly. Orum’s key CRM integrations:
    • Salesforce
    • Apollo
    • Outreach
    • Salesloft
    • HubSpot
    • Gong
Salesloft + Orum integration6

Connect rate:

  • Nooks: Does not publicly disclose its connect rate or the total number of dials made on its platform.
  • Orum: Reports a connect rate of 5%.7

How do auto dialer software work?

Auto dialer software streamline communication within call centers or sales teams by automating key functions like dialing, routing, and call scripting. These systems typically use cloud-based technology to handle large volumes of calls, enabling businesses to reach more customers or leads faster.

Key components of auto dialer software:

  • Dialing systems:
    • Progressive dialers: Dials one number at a time, connecting agents only when a live person answers. Ideal for quality outreach.
    • Predictive dialers: Dials multiple numbers simultaneously, predicting when an agent will be available. Best for high-volume campaigns.
    • Power dialers: Dials one number at a time, skipping unanswered calls. Great for small teams focused on personalized calls.
    • Parallel dialers: Dials multiple numbers at the same time and connects agents to the first answered call. Best for very high-volume calling campaigns.
  • Call Routing and IVR: IVR (Interactive Voice Response) systems automate call routing, ensuring that customers or leads are directed to the right department or agent based on pre-set options.
    • Real-life example: CallCloud uses IVR to streamline inbound calls, directing customers to the correct department without human intervention, and improving response time.
  • Scripting and AI: Integrate AI-driven call scripting that adjusts the script in real-time based on the conversation flow, offering a more personalized experience.
    • Real-life example: Nooks uses AI to adapt the conversation, such as switching between product features based on the customer’s interest.

How auto dialer software improve customer service

  • Faster response time: Ensure faster response times by quickly routing calls and minimizing wait times.
    • Real-life example: Talkdesk’s omni-channel contact center solution reduces response time by automatically routing calls to the right agent or department.
  • 24/7 Availability: Provide round-the-clock support.
    • Real-life example: Five9 offers 24/7 support by automatically answering calls.
  • Consistency and accuracy: Provide standardized responses based on pre-programmed scripts, ensuring consistency across all customer interactions.
    • Real-life example: CallFire offers an IVR menu where customers are greeted with options like, “Press 1 for store hours, Press 2 for order tracking.” If the customer selects 1, the system consistently provides the same response, such as “Our store hours are Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 6 PM.”
