We tested 9 AI web browsers, including Perplexity Comet, Arc Max, Microsoft Edge Copilot, and ChatGPT Atlas, across key performance metrics to determine which solutions deliver practical value for different workflows.
AI Web Browser Benchmark Results
As a result of our testing, AI browsers show significant accessibility barriers and performance gaps that limit practical adoption for most users.
- Perplexity Comet can browse websites on its own and complete complex tasks, it is free as of October 2, 2025.
- Microsoft Edge Copilot handles content well if you’re already using Microsoft’s ecosystem.
- Brave Leo works immediately without signup or payment, completing every test we threw at it.
- Arc Max has clever right-click AI features but no traditional chat interface.
- Opera Aria promises a lot but fails frequently during actual use.
- ChatGPT Atlas brings ChatGPT into your browser with agent mode for automated tasks, currently macOS only with other platforms coming soon.
- Strawberry Browser shows potential for automation but remains early-stage alpha software.
- The AI browser market currently prioritizes premium features over accessibility, with most advanced capabilities locked behind paywalls.
1. AI Response Quality Testing
Task: “Summarize AIMultiple’s main page”
Perplexity Comet: Navigated to the site independently, analyzed content, and delivered structured summaries with specific examples.
Microsoft Edge Copilot: Correctly identified key sections AI benchmarks, LLM calculators, enterprise software insights. Solid understanding of business content.
ChatGPT Atlas: Analyzed the page through its sidebar, providing summaries with context from previous browsing history when browser memories are enabled. Could answer follow-up questions about specific sections.
Brave Leo: Accurately covered enterprise software insights, AI benchmarks, calculators, and the site’s transparency focus. Well-structured response.
Arc Max: Cannot perform this test due to lack of standalone chat interface. AI functionality is limited to context-specific right-click actions only, making direct webpage summarization impossible through conversational queries.
Opera Aria: Failed to summarize the current page content. Instead of analyzing the actual webpage, the system provided LLM-based suggestions and generic responses, indicating issues with page context functionality.
Sigma AI: Unable to access external websites directly. The browser explicitly states it cannot visit URLs and requires manual text input to provide summaries, severely limiting web summarization capabilities.
Strawberry Browser: Initial demonstrations suggest strong autonomous research capabilities, though comprehensive evaluation remains restricted.
Task: Long Article Analysis
Analyze article: Agentic AI for Cybersecurity: Real life Use Cases & Examples
Perplexity Comet: Delivered structured analysis covering SecOps and AppSec use cases, cited specific examples (University of Kansas Health System, APi Group), broke down benefits and challenges.
Microsoft Edge Copilot: Organized findings into clear sections—SecOps automation, AppSec uses, implementation challenges.
Brave Leo: Covered autonomous AI operations, SecOps/AppSec applications, automation benefits, challenges. Strong grasp of technical concepts, suggested follow-up questions.
ChatGPT Atlas: Analyzed the article with context awareness, breaking down technical concepts and offering to compare with similar articles from browser memory.
Arc Max: Provided detailed analysis across multiple attempts but was repetitive. Captured key concepts like autonomous decision-making, real-time monitoring, SOC automation, though less concise than competitors.
Opera Aria: Context functionality broken. Defaulted to generic responses instead of analyzing the actual article.
2. Feature Accessibility Analysis
- Perplexity Comet: Previously available only to Perplexity Max subscribers at $200/month, the company removed the waitlist and made Comet accessible to all users at no cost.
- Microsoft Edge Copilot: Available through Edge browser installation, enhanced functionality requires Microsoft 365 integration.
- ChatGPT Atlas: Free for basic features. Agent mode requires a ChatGPT Plus ($20/month) or Pro ($200/month) subscription. Currently, macOS only.
- Brave Leo: Provides comprehensive functionality immediately without subscription requirements.
- Arc Max: Offers unrestricted access but restricts interactions to contextual features.
- Opera Aria: Available without payment.

AI Agents Browsing vs Smart Assistance
The AI browsers we tested fall into two camps:
- Smart helpers: These add AI features like chat and summarization, but you still do the browsing (Arc Max, Brave Leo, Microsoft Edge Copilot, ChatGPT Atlas)
- AI agents browsing: These AI agents can browse and work on their own, making decisions without constant guidance (Perplexity Comet, Strawberry Browser)
Whether you need agentic browsing capabilities or smart assistance depends on what you want the AI to do for you.

Security Risks in AI Agents’ Browsers
Security researchers at Brave discovered a significant security flaw in Perplexity Comet’s implementation that allows attackers to manipulate AI actions through malicious web content1 .
Attack mechanism:
- Attackers embed hidden instructions in web content (invisible text, HTML comments, social media posts)
- Users request innocent AI assistance like “summarize this page”
- AI processes malicious instructions without distinguishing them from legitimate content
- AI executes unauthorized actions with full user privileges
High Risk – Advanced Agentic Browsers:
- Perplexity Comet: Documented vulnerabilities with partial mitigation
- Strawberry Browser: Early development with extensive autonomous capabilities
Medium Risk – Limited Agentic Features:
- Microsoft Edge Copilot, Arc Max: Reduced attack surface due to limited automation
Lower Risk – Assistant-Only Browsers:
- Brave Leo, Opera Aria, Sigma AI: Focus on content analysis rather than autonomous actions
Security Vulnerabilities in AI Browsers
Recent research by Brave revealed critical vulnerabilities affecting multiple AI browsers, particularly those with autonomous capabilities. These attacks exploit how Brave’s AI browsers process visual content and navigate the web, enabling malicious actors to manipulate browser behavior via hidden commands.
Perplexity Comet Screenshot Attacks
Comet’s screenshot feature contains a vulnerability that allows attackers to embed nearly invisible instructions within web images using faint text colors that humans cannot easily detect. Brave The attack process works as follows:
Attack Mechanism:
- Attackers place hidden commands in web content using subtle color combinations (light blue text on yellow backgrounds)
- Users capture screenshots of these pages without noticing the hidden text
- The browser’s OCR system extracts this imperceptible text and processes it as legitimate commands rather than untrusted content Brave
- These injected commands can then access browser tools and user accounts
